The One Box has been awarded a $9000 grant by the Vicinity Community Grants Program. We are very fortunate to receive this generous funding which can further assist the 8 schools we service within the Brimbank area in Victoria.
Grant Impact & Benefits
What makes The One Box unique is our holistic approach to fresh food relief and commitment to ensuring as many people as possible have dignified, reliable and regular access to fresh and nutritious food.
The support we receive via grants like Vicinity Centre’s enable us to better assist local communities each week of the school year. Being able to access fresh produce assists in reducing some of the economic pressures these families face whilst providing nutrition vital for their physical and mental wellbeing.
The One Box preserves the dignity of such recipients as they receive high–quality, purchased food as opposed to old, rescued produce that can be unappetising and/or mouldy. Recipients, therefore, feel respected and cared for.
Partnering with local schools to distribute weekly fresh food boxes also creates opportunities for school coordinators to interact with families, creating a sense of trust and confidence over time. As a result, families feel encouraged to be more involved in school activities and connect with their wider community.
Independent research by Monash Business School further validates that reliable food relief has fundamental benefits beyond financial or nutritional benefits – building community connection and trust, inclusion and dignity, and greater family wellbeing.
Sunshine Marketplace Centre Manager Chris Holmes said the centre was “looking forward to seeing how this grant will help support The One Box and are excited to be able to continue to build stronger connections with important community groups.”
