We are proud to share that The One Box has been chosen as one of the recipients of this year’s Canberra Foundations Collaborative Grant.
Supported by Hands Across Canberra, The Snow Foundation and John James Foundation, The One Box has received a 3-year grant in partnership with Together 4 Youth and seven Queanbeyan schools. The grant aims to address food insecurity and promote school engagement for vulnerable families in the Queanbeyan area and is a great example of working collaboratively to achieve bigger goals.
The One Box has received a grant of $50,000 for the first year, and $25,000 for the next two years. The grant will enable the core program to provide over 6,500 boxes of fresh food to families in need. Our latest research report released in partnership with Monash Business School validates that the weekly nature of the fresh food boxes allows parents to send their children to school with nutritious lunchboxes and build a rapport with their community when they go to pick up their boxes. Having access to reliable, fresh food restores dignity and reduces the brunt of food insecurity on parents and caretakers, who are now less likely to skip meals.
In the words of our CEO & Founder Martin Halphen, “Food insecurity is a complex problem and needs the collaborative focus of many to have real impact”. Staying true to this mantra, our team is always open to working with new partners who, like us, recognise the huge potential to make a difference in the food relief sector. A big congratulations to our fellow grant recipients as well, who continue to uplift disadvantaged communities and make a meaningful impact in key areas of societal concern such as mental wellbeing and healthcare.
